I know you’ve heard so many times that you have to be positive, you have to be grateful for all you have. You’re probably thinking Oh it’s one of those motivational speeches. Before you conclude, just scan through this. Let’s put this in perspective. Let’s look at it from the different human dimensions: Spiritual, physical, mental and social/emotional.
1. It makes you happy
Happiness is the ultimate thing we all search for. The reason we love, the reason we want to achieve something, no matter how selfless your motives are, you still do what you do in order to be happy. Maybe seeing someone happy makes you happy, that’s still your happiness. Now what will happen when you focus on what you already have and you keep a grateful heart towards everyone, yourself and God? Your happiness will grow. Yes, there are things you don’t have, but there are reasons to be grateful, focus on them.
2. Life becomes less stressful
So you have goals that you haven’t achieved, at your age. You keep worrying, you keep wondering if you will amount to anything at all. You look around and all your friends are doing something great. Now, instead of focusing on all the things you haven’t been able to achieve, what if you focus on those that you have achieved in the past? What if you cast your mind back and be grateful to God, your family, friends and yourself for the times you achieved something. If you haven’t achieved anything at all, you’ve survived from the day you won the sperm race till now! Be grateful and take it easy on yourself.
3. Makes you beam with positive energy
Have you ever met someone who is ever so calm under very stressful and difficult conditions? How did you feel about them? I bet you were filled with so much awe and admiration once they had pulled it through. I bet you were inspired at least temporarily to handle pressure a bit more maturely. That’s what happens when you remain grateful even when you feel like nothing before you is working. You know things worked on your way to where you are now, though it’s behind you now. Being grateful for those times while in a presently difficult time will cause a flow of positivity which will eventually cause things to turn around. It will influence how you see the challenge, give you hope. You’ll agree that’s definitely better than feeling so miserable and defenseless.
4. Attracts good things
As a man thinketh, so is he. The Bible says. Staying in a state of gratitude fills your mind with positive thoughts and feelings. You focus on the good things in your life and so those things will be magnified, and more of them will happen. Also, like I said, eventually we all want to be happy, we also want to associate ourselves with happy people. Being grateful attracts people to you and people are the greatest resources one can have! Moreover, your gratitude will attract more of the very things you’re grateful for, to you.
5. You get more for saying ‘Thank you’
When you’re in a state of gratitude, you seem to be very grateful for every little thing someone does for you. You see the good things people do as though they were highlighted texts in a book. This will compel people to do more for you. Humans are creatures of habits, once people form get used to being good to you, you will always get more from them. Guess what, you will even get greater things from God, when you remain in a state of gratitude. Even we humans, that have wicked hearts, we know how to give good things to our children (when they say thank you, we do it even more), how much more our heavenly Father who loves us with abundance of love?
Regenerate happiness within you. Focus on the things that makes you grateful even as you remain expectant, that more good things will come your way. Stay blessed!
